I have followed your career and seen you in many films and TV shows, in all you have been excellent. Best wishes to you and yours Thanks for years of watching pleasure Mike ps Great website

Hi, my name is Olivia. I am 12 years old and we live in Bellingham Washington. In Novemeber 2005 we started watching The Avengers with Diana Rigg. Now we have seen all of them. My favorites are The Joker, Castle De'ath and a Sense of History. It was dissapointing to have seen all of them, but its always fun to watch them again. Thank you for making the Avengers so great, and here is my brother Owen. Hi I am Owen. I am 8 and a big fan of The Avengers.I am also a fan of England and I plan to go to England some time soon. If I go to England I will go to the Bridge Farm from You Have Just Been Murdered. Dear Mr. Macnee, I remember well watching the Avengers with my mother(she adored the show)when I was the same age as Olivia and Owen. My wife and I have certainly enjoyed watching the series with our children. Thank you! -- Jeff J. P.S. The episode "Silent Dust" is a nice nod to the theme of Rachel Carson's ecological work "Silent Spring."

WHAT A WONDERFUL TV EXPERIENCE DURING MY YOUTH,TO WATCH THE AVENGERS. STEED IN HIS BLOWER BENTLEY AND MRS. PEEL IN HER LOTUS. YES THOSE WERE IMPECCABLE DAYS OF GOOD CHEER. AND LINDA THORSON WAS AS SINFULLY SEXUAL AS THE FEMALE LEAD AFTER DIANNA RIGGS DEPARTURE,ALTHOUGH MY LATE FATHER USED TO JUST GROWL WHENEVER DIANNA RIGG WAS ON THE SCREEN. AHH THE DAYS PAST OF WONDERFUL FANTASY WITH A DASH OF BRITISH CANDOR. PATRICK MACNEE REMINDS ME OF THE CHARACTER "AMOS BURKE" PORTRAYED BY GENE BARRY ON "BURKES LAW" ALSO BACK IN THE WONDERFUL 60"S. Patrick MacNee is one of the finest actors around today. He is the embodiment of quality. With a voice like his, you know you are getting quality verbiage and smooth entertainment. Not only was his John Steed an incredible role which was well- acted. When he played Count Iblis in "Battlestar:Galactica", you were just pleased to be watching. That was one of the best episodes of the original series because of the performance Mr. MacNee gave. As Tibbet in the James Bond film "View To A Kill", he was in his element. Back to "Battlestar:Galactica", his narration of the opening credits of the series was superb. I look forward to seeing and hearing more from Mr. MacNee. He is a delightful presence in anything he does. Reagan McLane

Being a parent of six children, it is most difficult to explain the reality of life in that often it is boring. In my youth, 'The Avengers' were to say the least a short diversion from life's boredom. As an adult I find the adventure on screen just as titilating. Though odd, sometimes I feel that John Steed is in me. That suave, cool approach is just so perfect. I'd look odd twirling an umbrella around my shop or in the street, however I dress impeccably and find cooler heads do prevail, just before I knock you out with a rounder. Thank you Joh Steed.

As child in the 60's I used to watch The Avengers every week. I have only recently discovered the reruns are on BBC America and when I get a chance I try to watch them. I must confess that one of the reasons I watched The Avengers was because of Diana Rigg. She is absolutely beautiful in that role. And of course you looked very suave and dapper in those fine tailored British suits and boller (I think that's what it's called) hat. A number of years ago, I believe I saw you at the L.A. Times Book Festival at UCLA sitting in a booth signing one of your books. Next booth over was the late author Olivia Goldsmith. But, the reason why I was there was because my sister Whitney Otto was promoting her book, a novel called "How To Make an American Quilt" which later Steven Spielberg made into a movie. It's nice to hear that you're still working and hopefully healthly and living in beautiful Southern California. I'm familiar with the Palm Springs area because my parents used to own a house in Palm Desert. Take Care.

I should have written years ago! I would just like to say thankyou for ensuring long term enjoyment through film, television and written material. Growing up during the 90's when television and film were of such influence catch repeats of The Avengers, growing up with James Bond and recognising an actor and ensuring recognision when seen on shows such as War of the Worlds (at 4am ish) in my humble opinion is of great value. The re-watchable nature of such roles is also important, and just from those people i have met enthusiasm never wains for your role as John Steed - even though it is not your only role, for too few will not have seen you on stage (I didn't), but I ahve read reviews (few people keep a show running for 10 years without reason). Happy New Year :o) and again Thankyou.

To Patrick MacNee We spoke on the phone today (by accident.) Someone called me and then called you and connected us (three way calling). This happened to me a couple weeks ago with someone else, and the call originated from the same location in Florida. I think the person did it because my real name is John Steed and that was your character name on The Avengers. I have caller ID and the phone call originated from 561-218-4000 which is the Office Depot call center in Boca Raton Florida. So someone in that office is doing the prank phone calls. I do not know if this is the first time you had this problem, or if you are getting a lot of calls like that. If you have (or get) caller ID and see that number show up, you could avoid answering it. Anyway, I was surprised to hear your voice, but actually it was a pleasure to talk with you. Like many people, I still enjoy watching The Avengers and I have the videos. If you need my help working with the phone company to try to catch the prankster, I have the exact time of the call (if that helps.) I am not sure which of my phone numbers they called me on, but it was either 616-364-5503 or 616-866-9422 John Steed

I remember as a child being forced to go to bed when the Avengers came on. I always thought it was cool when you would pull out the umbrella sword and pluck the carnation and toss it to Mrs. Peel. I didn't get to watch The Avengers until I was an adult. I'm scarred for life. hehehe! Now I own the Emma Peel episodes on DVD. I always thought you were the picture of the consumate Englishman. Polite, well mannered, but not afraid to kick someone's butt if they needed it. Being able to trace my ancestry to the earliest Holbrook to be found buried in Cheshire in the late 1600's, I find all things English interesting. Thank you for giving me that picture in yourself. I hope to explore your illustrious career further. I recognized your voice early in the Battlestar Galactica opening. I have always thought you had the most amazing voice. I see I shall have to obtain your reading of the Bible. Thank you again for being what you are.

My father recorded some of "The Avengers" for me a few years ago when TVLand ran a marathon right before the release of the movie. He knew that I loved (and love) sixties television, especially spy/detective shows, and thought I might become a fan. Today, and many A&E VHS/DVD sets later, there's no longer any doubt. After Mr. Steed, my favorite performance is in "Rehearsal for Murder." I'll never stop watching...

Patrick, I just received my signed John Steed photo for Christmas......best present in years. Thank you very much. I became a big fan watching the Avengers as a kid. I couldn't imagine anyone else in the role. Recently watched (and taped) the episodes again on BBC America. I plan to one day get some of your other work. Anything you'd recommend (I know there's a lot)? Thanks again, hope you're having/had a good holiday.

Patrick, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Wishing you and your family a safe and healthy new year. I'm about half way through viewing the 65-67 Avengers Box set. Bringing back fond memories of my youth and I thank you for that. You and Diana must have had a hoot making the series. I've read that she absolutely hated doing the series, but one can not see that in her on screen persona. You must of brought out the best in her. Again, thanks for the Avengers and all your work and take care in 2006!

Dear Mr. Macnee Like so many of your admirers I have been an ardent fan of the Avengers since I was a child. (I was 6 years old in 1960). Many times I have thought of sending some form of communication expressing our appreciation, (my Wife Margaret is also an undying fan), of your particular talents and the unique series. However, like so many good intentions, I never got further than the thought. But tonight I watched a programme on BBC 4 celebrating the Avengers, and with that spur, and the benefits of technology I felt compelled to contact you. Firstly may I say how pleasing it was to see you again, and how well you are looking, and we both wish you many future happy years. However the point of this e-mail is to express my personal appreciation of what in modern parlance is often described as a `role model` to me as a youngster, at a time my parents were unfortunately separating. Just before you started the New Avengers series back in the early seventies I joined the police service, and I have recently retired after 30 years, having risen to the rank of Inspector. Throughout that time, (whilst the character of John Steed is fictional), I was impressed with the characteristics that you imbued him with. With your emphasis on calm, professionalism, politeness, integrity, and above all humour. All of which I think are qualities that every honourable police officer should have in abundance. During my service I have been involved in numerous incidents, from personal fatalities, train crashes, and terrorist bombs. But at all times I attempted to present a calm and professional exterior, and however black the situation was, I have always tried to see whatever humour was available, for the morale and welfare of my officers and myself. It would be plainly ridiculous to suggest that your role model was constantly in my mind during the last 30 years, but I am sure that in some unknown phsycological way watching the shows as a youngster had an undoubted, (and I believe beneficial), effect upon me. At least I like to think so. Finally, at my retirement `bash` where approximately 20 to 30 officers were anticipated to attend, but in fact 100 plus turned up, I was humbled by many of the comments made about me. But one of my proudest moments was an aside referring to my role as the `communications officer` on scene at the Paddington train crash, in London. A Constable approached me, to tell me how magnificently calm I had been, and he hoped that if he was ever faced with such a situation, he could manage to behave similarly. I hope Mr. Macnee that you will not think me too sychophantic and disingenuous when I ascribe some of my `credit` to your example, whether in character or reality. Wishing you and your family many happy years. Thank you. Michael Morris PS My Wife and myself both use the one e-mail site, should the change of name appear confusing.

Thank you, Dear Mr McNee, for having, by the joy your art has given me, enhanced my life. A fun memory for me recalls an early-1980s evening in Singapore when, although by far the most elegantly attired person, man or woman, in the place, you were turned away from dinner at Singapore's Tanglin Club because your trousers and jacket, fashionably, did not exactly match. I've never been able to enter the joint since without being reminded of the way you were 'given the bums rush.' Uppity bloody colonials! <];^)~< Blessings. Fraternally -- Brian

Sir, Thank You! Trust me when I tell you those are the most heart felt two words I have said (written) in a long time. I'm not sure, but I think you may have saved my life. Well, maybe not my life, but you certainly saved me from some serious hurt. I used to think that the routine of humor in the face of danger that is a corner stone of "The Avengers" was funny, but could never happen. That is until a couple of weeks ago. I work with a partner as an armed security officer at one of the worst motels in the city. We had a motorcycle gang out of Texas known as the Sons of Silence come in. After spending most of the day ingesting what smelled like ethanol and probably tasted just as bad, they seemed to take exception with my uniform. Now I have to tell you that just prior to going to work at mid-night that night, I had watched "Death at Bargain Prices" which always makes me laugh. So I was in a pretty good mood. However, watching these four guys coming at us, I'm only five foot two and my partner is even shorter, I would have thought humor would be the last thing to cross my mind. As I said, they took exception to my uniform. The leader of this little band of angels, at the time, looking like he was about nine foot tall and just as wide said (and I'll clean the language up), "Look at this *&%#@ guard. Looks like a f*&^%# mini Texas Ranger". I didn't see the resemblance myself. Must have been the cowboy hat I wear with my uniform. Anyway, I said, "As long as I don't shoot you like a Texas Ranger, you'll be alright". I've never been charged by a raging bull, but I bet it looks a lot like what I saw that night. I know the distance across that lobby had to have shrunk as he came at me saying, "You ain't gonna shoot my ass"! This is the part that, if I saw it on television, I probably wouldn't buy it, but I swear it happened. I didn't reach for my weapon. Never even moved a muscle, but for some reason, the words, "That's not where I'd be aiming," came out. It stopped him dead in his tracks. He blinked a few times. Looked at his three friends and broke out laughing. After a minute or two he said, "That was a good come back". They were still laughing, my partner was looking at me like I was crazy and I walked away as though I knew what I was doing all along. Of course it took about half an hour for my heart to stop pounding in my ears, but they didn't know that. We were treated with dignity and respect by the gang for the rest of their stay. Now you might agree with my mother who claims that I've always been a smart a*& ... ah, I mean, quick wit and that "The Avengers" had nothing to do with it. Well, I'm the one it happened to and I can tell you that I don't usually go to work in that good a mood. So I know exactly where the credit lies. I bet you never thought you'd be rescuing the damsel in distress thirty nine years after the fact. Again, I Thank You. May your life be filled with joy and challenges and loved ones to witness both. I was born there in 1947 and lived a useless life with boarding schools and public schools until 1967 when I headed down under for some adventure. Before I left my life was dictated to by two TV shows John Steed and the Avengers and the Forsythe Saga. I was in love with Nyree Dawn Porter and was devastated by her far too early death. After my pathetic schooling I studied Architecture and Design and my natural love of avant garde and contemporary design made me very aware of brilliant concepts and products. My passion for unusual cars such as Jensen Interceptors started at a very early age. Therefore the Avengers had everything I could wish for. Style and cool. However Steed was one thing, that incredible actor Patrick McNee gave me such inspiration to seek the ultimate in achieving success. Thank you Patrick for you are still an inspiration to me. Good health and great happiness. Sincerely Peter March

I have been an "AVENGERS" fanatic since the early "70's". Currently my collection has about 36 different episodes. John Steed and his partners are truly in a class of their own. While very sporadic, I enjoy catching glimpes of my favorite heroes on TV and film. Hope all of you live on forever.......you will with me.

hi, u "british'st" of all actors..i'm very lucky! here in luxembourg, we get tv-programs from germany, belgium and france (and of course all satellite-progs), so i've seen the avengers in every possible language..and every time they are re-programmed, i watch them..but i must say, i have a definite preference for the diana rigg-episodes, even (or especially) in b/w..did u know, that during a period (early seventies, i think) the avengers were taken off the air in germany, because of "obvious brutality" giggle* - but never mind, they did the same with porky pig and duffy duck ! so you're in the best of company! greetings from luxembourg

When was it exatly that Patrick moved to the USA? My guess would be in the 1970's. Would he like to come out and perhaps speak in New Mexico? Or do book signings? He is perhaps the most distinguished character actor of Televison history living today. Dave Albuquerque

I have just re-viewed the 'Avengers' series which I rented from Netflix...1965-1967...the Mrs. Peel ones. I enjoyed them this time even more. BTW I have a daughter and 'son' with the grandbabies living in southern CA...in Manchester; close to Temecula. I will be visiting them in January 2006...will have to see if you would agree to a phone call. You are my ideal "sharp dressed man".

Dear Mr. Macnee, In my recent post to your site, I neglected to thank you. I cannot put into words how you helped me to escape the mundaneness of my childhood surroundings in a small farming town in the Midwest with you and Mrs. Peel, or Miss King. If you wondered who that 12 year old kid in the back seat of your Bentley was, that was me. I have seen you in other roles, but I hope you will forgive me if I choose Steed as my favorite. I just ordered your book The Avengers and Me, and will probably be reading your autobiography next. Although it will probably never happen, I would love the opportnity to one day meet you in person and shake your hand.

I hope that Patrick Macnee himself reads this, and assuming this, I will continue in the second person. I grew up watching The Avengers in the 60's. At first, my mom wouldn't let me watch because she thought the show was too violent. Before long, I had both my parents watching the show every Monday night with me. As John Steed, you were my role model. I just bought your own selection of favourite episodes on DVD and now, am wanting more. I was amazed at how much I remembered. It was enlightening to see the early episodes with Honor Blackman and see how the character of John Steed evolved. It seemed strange to see Steed wearing a hat that wasn't a bowler. It was also good to see the episode where you first acquired the Bentley. I don't know how to properly address you, as I don't know whether you have been knighted or made a peer, and if you haven't received either honour as of yet, it's a shame. Sir, I hope you are well and will be with us for a very long time. Cheers!

Can't quite believe you've settled in America though - thought you'd go for somewhere like Kent somewhere totally English!!!!! Anyway, long life (well, even longer life in your case!!!!!!!). Keep well, and love to your family (which must include your dogs!!!!). With love from jolly old London (well South-East London anyway!). We love you Steed! Debbie
